John Vigilia is an interior designer based in Metro Manila, Philippines. He took up BS Interior Design at University of the Philippines where he graduated cum laude. Fresh from passing the licensure for interior designers, he joined Budji + Royal Design Architects.
His skills where further honed, through a breadth of experience in handling high-end residential and commercial projects, directly under the tutelage of accomplished architect Royal Pineda and acclaimed designer Budji Layug.
After 6 years, and reaching the position of Sr. Interior Designer, it was time to start a new chapter. John put up his own firm, and debuted as an independent designer by coming out in a feature of Elle Decoration Philippines (March 2014 Cover, “Urban Ease"). Right after that he was featured in multiple issues of Real Living magazine (April 2014 “Love for Country” and May 2014 “Real Makeover").
In the future, John will come up with his original designs for home accessories. Meanwhile, he busies himself with commercial and residential projects.
I tend to go the modern route. Clean lines, subdued decoration, but impactful. I like using materials that are natural in finish as much as possible, but if factors prohibit, then i go to what looks natural. A tile that looks like stone, or engineered wood, and paint effects to name a few. But once in a while its fun to play around and just do something visually arresting.
I also infuse something that's not matching. A contrast that complements the rest of the space. I like something that is imperfect so it gives character to the space. I select organic forms and textures so patterns do not repeat often and are not perfectly matched.
I always have some plants inside the space, they are my favorite accessories. they are sculptural, healthy, colourful...everything! It livens up the space instantly.
